Why I got to meet Paul Kelly*

Bills, bills, bills. You don’t want to get them in the post and apparently nobody wants them in Parliament either.

As you may/may not know, there was a consultation last year on whether Australia should have a Bill of Rights.

But let’s be honest. How many people actually know what that means? Very few, if we go by the number of people who say we have ‘freedom of speech”…

We don’t, actually. So I put it to you…do you know what your rights are?

I was part of a group which held a forum about this, with speakers on both sides from leading legal academics to politicians to journalists.

It was an energetic debate, clearly with some fanclubs in the audience, but also informative about the state of human rights in Australia.

It’s airing on ABC Radio National this Sunday from 5-6pm.
