Love [Campari] Game

Zac’s awesome article on subliminal advertising + friends raving on about Lady Gaga’s tour reminds me of the complete lack of subtlety in this video:

No, I’m not talking about the lack of clothes…but the 1 second Campari bottle shots (around 0:20 and 0:40). Apparently if you want a refreshing drink before dancing provocatively on the train Campari’s the way to go.

Lady Gaga is a pretty well-crafted pop machine, with her ‘factory’ of the ‘Haus of Gaga’ creating what has become a signature style in filming, lyrics (sex, money, parties) and clothes (never more than two articles of clothing at a time).

I think I’ve mentioned before – branding alcohol is so much harder because they can’t take control of their brand experience. Heineken has managed it in part with their ‘Green Room’ and other music events; Belvedere’s events around the ‘Jagger Dagger’ tour did the same in a luxury setting.

But this…just feels obvious. It’s not appealing, it’s just there. There are plenty of other things Lady Gaga could have done with that bottle to put the ‘camp’ back in Campari…
