the grass is greener on the internet

What’s after the guest post?

Interesting.

First blogs were a sort of ‘cult of personality’. One person’s ramblings in cyberspace.

Then came blogrings. I don’t know what happened to blogrings. They were meant to be like Facebook groups for blogs. With a lot less embarrassing pictures.

Next came superblogs. People who figured out SEO, networking, building themselves into thought leaders for a range of bloggers. But not everyone can be the leader, right?

Group blogs came in somewhere along the way…the upside – more people to promote the blog. The downside – gets messy, there’s no personality (or too much!).

Now? Cross-post, guest post, collaborate…everyone’s feeding into each other’s networks to form mega-networks. Links, re-tweets and comments are the name of the game. And let’s not forget real-world networking.

What next, I wonder?

I already have more links to follow and feeds to read than I know what to do with. We’re all inter-connected virtually but until we start living fully online with unlimited attention for the net’s content…what will be the next step?
